Vacature: Research & Development Technician

We are looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented R&D Technician to support our research and development efforts. In this role, you will work closely scientists and engineers to design, develop and test in vitro diagnostic products – all the way from product concept to final approval and throughout the post-market stage. You will work according to an ISO 13485-certified quality management system.

PathoFinder, founded in 2004, is a molecular diagnostics scale-up company based in Maastricht. The company develops and commercializes innovative molecular diagnostic tests for comprehensive detection of a wide variety of infectious disease pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2. PathoFinder's proprietary 2SmartFinder® technology enables the detection and differentiation of up to 24 viral, bacterial, fungal and parasitic pathogens in a single assay.

PathoNostics, founded in 2011, is PathoFinder’s sister company and is focusing on the development and manufacturing of real-time PCR assays for fungal diagnostics. Our mission is to rapidly detect the disease-causing fungus and simultaneously identify antifungal resistance, allowing clinicians to initiate a dedicated and timely therapy and save on costs and lives.

Both PathoFinder and Pathonostics are ISO13485 certified, and all products comply with CE-IVD guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of new technologies and new products.
  • Prepare and perform assay design and practical experiments in the lab.
  • Record designs and experimental results in lab journals and reports.
  • Participate in R&D meetings.
  • Contribute to maintenance of laboratory equipment and to stock control.
  • Work and contribute to the continuous improvement of PathoFinder’s and PathoNostics’ QMS.
  • This role reports to the Assay Development Manager.

Skills and Requirements:

  • BSc or MSc in Applied Science, Life Sciences, Biotechnology or a related field.
  • Experience in molecular biological methods such as DNA/RNA purification and real-time PCR.
  • Knowledge of general software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and specialist software (PCR instrument operation, BLAST, primer designing, sequence databases)
  • Adequate, precise and critical analysis of data.
  • Team player with skills to support and motivate other team members.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, fluent in English.
  • Knowledge of infectious diseases is a plus.
