The function

The main goal of this Product Owner is to drive and optimize our diverse portfolio of applications within the Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center (CAC), ensuring it’s aligned with the company’s strategic objectives and meets the needs of our various departments.

Within the department of IT Product & Data Governance, the Product Owner will be part of an international team, working out of the Maastricht offices, and cooperating with suppliers worldwide. Within this environment he/she acts as the product owner of multiple applications, guiding the implementation and maintenance of the application portfolio. This also entails defining the applications’ roadmap and making the team create high-value applications, fostering an environment that embraces optimal value delivery.

Additionally, the Product Owner ensures that all applications adhere to the highest standards of security and compliance. This includes overseeing data protection measures and user access management protocols to safeguard sensitive information and maintain regulatory compliance. By integrating robust security practices into the application lifecycle, the Product Owner protects the integrity and confidentiality of our data.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain applications’ roadmap, backlog, and increment planning, in relation to stakeholders’ deadlines
  • Conduct regular assessments of existing applications to identify areas for improvement
  • Identify potential risks associated with our application landscape and implement strategies to mitigate them, ensuring data security and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Conduct regular reviews of existing security policies related to applications and update them as necessary in consultation with the ISO
  • Ensure deliverables are up to security and quality standards at the end of each sprint
  • Define and enforce user access policies and procedures in collaboration with the ISO to ensure appropriate access levels for all users, and regularly review and update
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to application configurations, processes, and procedures
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements for new applications or enhancements
  • Lead the implementation and deployment of new applications, ensuring a smooth transition and minimal disruption to business operations
  • Monitor application performance and availability, troubleshooting issues and coordinating resolution efforts as needed.
  • Provide training and support to end-users to maximize utilization and adoption of applications.
  • Prepare and present reports to senior management, outlining the performance of our application landscape and making recommendations for optimization
  • Resolve conflicts and remove obstacles that occur
  • Coordinate both internal and external communications proactively
  • Help teams implement changes effectively
  • Perform project management activities for e.g. shared services or rollout related initiatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a similar field
  • At least three years of professional experience in application management, optimizing application portfolios and driving innovation
  • Must be an influencer and decision maker to make critical decisions in a timely manner
  • Strong understanding of enterprise-level applications and their integration with business processes
  • Knowledge of risk management principles and data security best practices
  • Good knowledge of Agile frameworks, and specifically SAFe, as well as standard demand management and application development
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Problem-solving and conflict-resolution ability
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Excellent language skills in English - both spoken and English written is required for communicating with stakeholders. German language skills are nice to have, but not mandatory.
  • Excellent analytic and interpersonal skills to influence and engage colleagues, along with a broad understanding of the businesses they support
  • Ability to balance the big picture with meeting the day-to-day needs of the organization
  • Ability to partner with both technical and non-technical peers and stakeholders, to interact with various levels of management, and to promote cross functional collaboration
  • Ability to be flexible and work accurately and outcome based, both independently and in a team environment, in a high pressure, multi-tasking environment with changing priorities
