Our home base is the Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center (CAC) Maastricht, which is the central point of contact in Europe for After-Sales, caring for the needs of current and prospective Mercedes-Benz customers. Beyond this responsibility, we also steer and further develop the global Customer Contact Centers (CCC) of Mercedes-Benz for After-Sales and Sales.

The function

The Legal Officer provides an active contribution to legal issues and the compliance program. Data protection is another important responsibility within the legal department. You are responsible for reporting to relevant stakeholders within and outside Mercedes-Benz.

The Legal Officer manages the local Legal department existing of Junior Legal officer and Local Compliance Specialist. You report to the CFO of Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center. The local legal department is part of the Mercedes-Benz corporate legal organization with a direct reporting line within legal.

Tasks & responsibilities

• Keeping oversight and monitoring the implementation of the Group Compliance Program
• Supporting the organization in the interpretation of internal guidelines and policies and the development and implementation of legal compliance programs
• Conducting and providing training on compliance risk assessment
• Embedding a strong compliance culture within the entity
• Conception, coordination and implementation of preventive measures of the worldwide Mercedes-Benz Compliance Program
• The preparation, assessment and if needed the partly negotiation of contracts
• Taking, with or without the support of a lawyer, the necessary legal actions in disputes between Mercedes-Benz and third parties
• Litigation and outside counsel management
• Conducting and Providing training and Risk Assessments
• Analysis and Monitoring of the developments of the new GDPR implications
• Advise the organization with regard to HR legal issues
• Advise the organization in regards to Antitrust and Anti Bribery Law
• Monitoring, analyzing and influencing international legal developments in competition and antitrust law, as well as designing appropriate measures, representing the company in legal matters.
• Analysis of legal developments in Dutch and European Law and abroad and derivation of recommendations / measures for Mercedes
• Providing support and advice with regard to company-wide legal issues
• Advice in Public Procurement procedures
• Managing a small legal team

Requirements

• Completed Master (WO)- degree in Dutch Law
• Minimum of 5-10 years of relevant practical experience as (company) lawyer
• Broad and well-founded knowledge, in the area of private law, contract law, corporate law, and labor law
• Excellent command of the Dutch and English language in word and writing; German is a plus
• Proactive, pragmatic, flexible
• Excellent communicator (both oral and written)
• Independent, convincing and binding
• (Project) Management experience
• High degree of professional ethics, responsibility and integrity
• Sound judgement and ability to analyze situations and information
