Are you the colleague who would love to bring the highlights of our Special Collections to a wide audience, using new options in (social) media and by actively involving your network? Are you also able to work on a better online visibility? Do you like variation and dynamics and are you creative, enterprising and a team player? In that case, the University Library is looking for you!

Job description

Most of our Special Collection is placed in a closed depot in the Inner City Library. We do not want to keep these treasures to ourselves. We aim to show them to a broad public and to tell and spread the stories behind them. As a communications officer, you will make this happen. You do not need to do this alone, but together with the curator Special Collections, the project member Citizen Science and our hospitality officer.

You will be involved in:

  • Ensuring a strong and structural online and offline presentation of the Special Collections. With a good strategy and the use of physical and digital channels, you ensure structural communication about the Special Collections and better online visibility.
  • Actively maintaining the Special Collections’ social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram), working with the student promo-team and in close consultation with the curator and the communications liaison.
  • Keeping the information on the Special Collections portal on our website up-to-date and the Special Collections network informed on recent developments.
  • Coordinating the organising of online expositions. In consultation with the curator, you will develop an internal plan, collaborating with the communications liaison, curator, faculties and possibly external parties.
  • Providing a variety of content to reach different target groups within and outside the Maastricht University (UM) community. You also coordinate the production of videos, podcasts and vlogs and you will post these on the various UB, faculty and UM channels.
  • Contributing to the promotion of the current collections. As a communications professional, you will work on projects to bring the current collections to the attention. You will work in close collaboration with your communication colleagues and other University Library staff.
  • Providing project support from a communication perspective. You contribute to the preparation of (progress) reports for internal and external use.
  • Participating in the promotion and communication activities to make project results more widely known to relevant networks and stakeholders.

Your work as a Communications officer Special Collections contributes to increasing the awareness of the Special Collections in various target groups and to the use of the collections in education, research and society.

Requirements

We are looking for you if you are an enthusiastic communications talent. You have some work experience and are now looking for a job to further develop your experience as a communications professional. In various ways, your creativity contributes to the augmented visibility of the Special Collections. You have the guts to pick up and develop new ideas. You are a team player, but you can also tackle situations independently. You have an eye for detail and will always go for the best result, even in ad hoc situations. As a communications professional, you are of course aware of the latest developments in social media and you know how to make use of them.

Furthermore, you have/you are:

  • A Bachelor or Master degree, for example in Communication, Multi Media or Journalism, possibly in combination with a feeling for heritage and library collections
  • Experience with communication in a professional environment
  • Experience with, and active on, social media channels including Facebook and Instagram. You manage channels and create content based on a plan or strategy
  • Some experience with photo- and video editing
  • You have excellent oral and written command of the Dutch and English language
