Are you highly motivated to support education and cutting-edge research in embedded systems and robotics? Interested in designing, manufacturing, and programming embedded systems and robots? Then you should consider joining our Department of Advanced Computing Sciences (DACS) as a technician. DACS is an international community of ~100 researchers at various stages of their career, embedded in the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE). Our department has more than 30 years’ experience with research and teaching in the fields of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, and Data Science.

What are you going to do?

You will be working 50% of your time in supporting education and another 50% in supporting research. For education you will set up and maintain educational and lab equipment. You will support students during practical assignments and projects, teach them to design, manufacture, and program embedded and robotic systems.

In your research role, you will become part of our team that focusses on enabling AI-powered control solutions. This team operates at Maastricht University in Maastricht and at the Brightlands Smart Service Campus in Heerlen. As a technician, you will support various research projects by designing, building, and programming embedded and robotic systems and components. This includes the programming of microprocessors and embedded computers for various applications.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • A (professional) Master degree in Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a strongly related field;
  • Proven experience in designing, building, and programming embedded systems;
  • Ideally 3-5 years of work experience in a comparable role;
  • Excellent command of English; command of Dutch language is a plus;
  • Strong time management abilities and the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively;

What we offer

As Technician Embedded Systems at Faculty of Science & Engineering, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 10-11 according to UFO profile Education and Research Technician , with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €3226,00 and €5929,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 1,0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract.
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.

Department of Advanced Computing Sciences

The Department of Advanced Computing Sciences is Maastricht University’s largest and oldest department broadly covering the fields of artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, mathematics and robotics.

Over 100 researchers work and study in the Department of Advanced Computing Sciences, whose roots trace back to 1987. The department’s staff teaches more than 1,200 bachelor’s and master’s students in 4 specialized study programmes in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science.
