Due to team expansion, we are seeking a creative and independent engineer who, with their technical expertise, can act as a sparring partner for our scientists and play a role in the design and coordination of scientific research.

Job description

Within the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience, we are looking for a Technical Support Engineer within the department Instrumentation Engineering (IE). IE focuses on supporting high-quality research by developing, designing, and implementing innovative technical solutions that are not commercially available. In this role, you will work for the Faculty but also be involved in projects carried out in broader collaborations within the Netherlands.

Together with your colleagues, you will be responsible for the following activities:

  • In collaboration with internal and external parties you will be responsible for designing, implementing and guiding project based research facilities;
  • Implementation of new facilities: selection, procurement, installation, testing, and maintenance of equipment and ICT (hardware and software);
  • Technical support and advising end-users.
  • Administrative tasks such as setting up and updating documentation and inventory management.
  • Performing corrective and preventive maintenance on research equipment and systems.

Requirements

You are interested to work in a challenging, dynamic and rapidly changing research environment at FPN. You like to be part of a team. On top of that, you are creative and resourceful to find technical solutions for research projects within the faculty. Additionally, you have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, ICT, Computer Science, Biometrics, Mechatronics, or other related field.
  • Experience with Agile methodology is a plus.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to focus on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • The following soft skills: entrepreneurial mindset, teamwork, independence, creativity, and result orientation.

Conditions of employment

As a Technical Support Engineer at the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience, you will be employed by the most international university of the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

  • Good employment conditions. The position is in grated in scale 8-10, with corresponding salary ranging from € 2.818,- to € 4.670,- gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus are applicable.
  • An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 1.0 FTE. If proven suitable, the employment contract will be converted into an indefinite contract.
  • As a holder of the 'Family-friendly University' quality mark, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
