Our organization is seeking a highly motivated, skilled and experienced Research Technician in the field of molecular biology and cell culture. You play a vital role in our research team by ensuring accurate and efficient laboratory operations, optimizing and conducting experiments, and contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge.

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic Research Technician with >2 years of proven experience in performing various laboratory techniques related to molecular biology and cell culture, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, transfection, cell line maintenance, western-blot, and cell-based assays.

We expect the candidate to be highly self-motivated, and to collaborate effectively with team members. The candidate is well organized, provides assistance to researchers in different in vitro and ex vivo projects, and takes responsibility for control and safety in laboratories. Demonstrates independent thinking and assertiveness in pursuing research objectives, contributes to a positive and cohesive work environment, is willing to learn and implement new techniques and have an excellent command of the English language. Knowledge and certificate to work with GMOs are required. Experience with, histology and microscopy would be assets.

Requirements

Candidates with a Higher Laboratory Education (HLO) degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related field) or higher are invited to apply. The technician will work as part of a highly skilled team and we are looking for a new member who has:

• Proven experience in performing various laboratory techniques related to molecular biology, including DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, and western-blot.
• Proficiency in cell culture techniques, including cell line maintenance, transfection, and cell-based assays.
• Experience with immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and microscopy imaging is a plus
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to optimize experimental procedures and troubleshoot technical issues.
• Excellent organizational skills with a keen eye for detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment, demonstrating effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated responsibility, reliability, and the ability to meet project deadlines
• To keep a meticulous oversight of laboratory supplies, reagent inventories, and equipment maintenance, ensuring their availability and functionality.
• Lab management in daily practice such as maintenance of equipment and tools.
• Likeness to work in a multidisciplinary environment.

Furthermore, the ideal candidate should be able to work independently in the laboratory in the techniques described above, and must be able and willing to implement and learn new techniques. Part of the position entails laboratory management tasks. Excellent knowledge of scientific English for speaking, reading, and writing are required. Knowledge of Dutch is not necessarily required.

Conditions of employment

We offer a 1,0 fte fixed-term contract with possibility of a permanent contract after receiving a positive evaluation after one year.

Gross salary will depend on your level of education and relevant experience. The maximum gross monthly salary is € 3,764 in accordance with scale 8 CLA NU (with full-time appointment). An 8% holiday and an 8.3% year-end allowance is also provided.

You can think of: flexible working hours, 232 holiday hours per year with a full-time appointment (and the possibility to work 2 extra hours per week to have 96 extra holiday hours on an annual basis), a good pension scheme, possibility to work from home and collective labor agreement a la carte.

NUTRIM aims to contribute to excellence in health maintenance and personalized medicine by unraveling lifestyle and disease induced derangements in metabolism and by developing targeted nutritional, exercise and drug interventions. Department of Pharmacology-Toxicology employs more than 20 employees and ~20 PhD candidates working on different disciplines aiming at preventing and treating diseases.
