Job description
As lead developer of digital innovation at Maastricht University’s Department of Marketing and Communications (M&C), you will be responsible for the technical development of projects and develop software yourself. You cooperate with colleagues on the Digital Innovation team and multidisciplinary colleagues from other M&C teams as well as managing external parties. Together, you work on projects that use technology to push boundaries.
Who are we and what do we do?
We are a small team whose projects span (and occasionally transcend) the field of M&C. We develop projects ourselves and manage projects developed externally. We are constantly on the lookout for opportunities to improve and innovate products and processes.
What will you do?
- Actively seek out opportunities for innovation
- Brainstorm potential projects and their content
- Select suitable solutions in collaboration with colleagues and in line with UM’s existing IT capacities
- Determine which features belong in the back end, front end or integrations
- Work in a structured manner on one or more projects simultaneously
- Collaborate on the maintenance and updating of existing applications
- Test, write and implement APIs and authentication methods for applications
- Work in a team and share your progress with the team on a daily basis
Requirements
We are looking for someone with :
- A university or professional higher education degree in a relevant field
- At least three to five years of experience as a developer (DevOps), with a minimum of two in a management role
- Sound knowledge of contemporary development methods and technologies:
- experience with app development for web, iOS, Android, and the associated frameworks (as demonstrated in a portfolio or git repository)
- experience with internet applications based on https, HTML, CSS, jScript, jQuery, PHP, XML, JSON and SQL
- knowledge of GitHub, APIs and development frameworks (Ionic, NodeJS)
- knowledge of and insight into the importance of user-centred design, the creation of mockups and user stories for various devices and interfaces.
- A proactive and creative attitude with a hands-on mentality
- Good communication skills and the ability to manage projects efficiently
- Insight into the consequences and influence of your work on the overarching (departmental) strategy

Conditions of employment
