Werkgever:Maastricht University
Plaats:Maastricht

Oorspronkelijke vacature omschrijving:

Do you enjoy problem-solving and working with data? Then keep reading because the University Library (UB) is looking for you!

Job description

"Supporting your academic goals" is what we focus on at the university library. One of those goals is to maintain a well-functioning library system to ensure optimal service to end users. That is why we are looking for a colleague who wants to contribute to seamless library systems and works towards optimizing the discoverability and accessibility of our physical and digital research- and education collections.

It is important that you are comfortable working with data in order to combine and analyze data from different source systems managed by the library.

You will work together with various departments of the UB, the ICT Service Center (ICTS), and vendors of integrated library systems. Additionally, you will maintain contacts and share best practices with other universities or vendors, for example, in the area of library system configurations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a bridge between IT and the business: You will bridge the gap between the functional needs and requirements of key users regarding the system and the technical solutions that can be developed (internally by our own developers or externally by the vendor).
  • Optimizing work processes and identifying improvements: You will work in the back-end of the system and translate our work processes into system functionality. You will do this in consultation with key users and support them in finding solutions and best practices. In collaboration with the vendor, you will continuously search for product and process improvements.
  • Coordinating/testing new functionalities: When a developer or the system vendor delivers new functionalities, you will understand their impact on the system's operation and test them in practice to ensure their proper functioning and communicate the updated functionality to key users.
  • Performing analyses on various data from the library management system and related data sources within the library: You will conduct analyses on output from the library system, such as evaluating the usage of collections when new contracts with publishers need to be renegotiated. You may need to combine this data with publication statistics to evaluate the contracts that consist of both a Read and Publish component.

Requirements

Are you the colleague we are looking for? Then you are someone who enjoys working in a team but can also work independently. You can quickly grasp systems, and you have analytical and problem-solving skills.

Furthermore, you have:

  • Higher Professional Education (HBO) or academic working and thinking level;
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken Dutch and English;
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel or basic knowledge of SQL is required. You are also willing to learn to work with server databases like SQL, including building basic knowledge of SQL programming and the standard tasks associated with an SQL server and database. This knowledge is necessary for bulk processing, combining, and analyzing various system data;
  • Experience with library systems such as WorldShare and/or ExLibris 360 Core is a plus;
  • Knowledge of metadata standards is a plus.
