EHS Specialist

Location

Today, Lonza is a global leader in life sciences operating across five continents. While we work in science, there’s no magic formula to how we do it. Our greatest scientific solution is talented people working together, devising ideas that help businesses to help people. In exchange, we let our people own their careers. Their ideas, big and small, genuinely improve the world. And that’s the kind of work we want to be part of.

As the EHS Specialist at Lonza, you will play a pivotal role in driving and implementing Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) strategies that align with Lonza's overarching corporate objectives. You will be responsible for ensuring strict compliance with legal, safety, and environmental regulations while contributing to the development of an EHS culture that fosters operational excellence and long-term sustainability. Your leadership will extend beyond compliance, as you will be key in shaping a high-performance EHS environment by setting ambitious objectives, empowering teams, and driving continuous improvement in line with both business goals and stakeholder needs.

What you’ll do:

  • Take a proactive approach in identifying operational and financial improvements within the EHS domain, leveraging deep knowledge of EHS processes to make timely, well-informed decisions.
  • Develop a deep understanding of both internal and external customer needs, leveraging this insight to enhance customer satisfaction and key performance metrics.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders effectively, ensuring alignment of company and customer objectives and addressing any misalignments promptly.
  • Lead the identification, management, and resolution of incidents through robust reporting and investigation systems (Intelex), ensuring timely follow-up and the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Take responsibility for fostering a positive, high-performance EHS culture that encourages accountability, feedback, and continuous learning.
  • Actively support the development of team members, offering guidance, resources, and constructive feedback to drive both personal and professional growth.
  • Support colleagues and team members in adapting to and leading change, ensuring the successful implementation of new systems, processes, or policies.

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in a similar role within the pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex EHS projects independently and collaborate across teams.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex regulations and integrate them effectively into operational practices.
  • High-level proficiency in incident reporting systems, preferably Intelex.
  • Fluency in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High-level proficiency in incident reporting, including system analysis for trend identification and improvement opportunities.

Every day, Lonza’s products and services have a positive impact on millions of people. For us, this is not only a great privilege, but also a great responsibility. How we achieve our business results is just as important as the achievements themselves. At Lonza, we respect and protect our people and our environment. Any success we achieve is no success at all if not achieved ethically.

People come to Lonza for the challenge and creativity of solving complex problems and developing new ideas in life sciences. In return, we offer the satisfaction that comes with improving lives all around the world. The satisfaction that comes with making a meaningful difference.
