GENERAL:
The General Manager manages the entire business operation of the Maastricht sites including direct and indirect management of all employees.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Asbury Graphite and Carbons NL B.V. General Manager has overall responsibility to direct and coordinate the safe manufacturing operations and day to day business operations of the Asbury Graphite and Carbons NL B.V. facilities and to identify and encourage “best practices” fostering a continuous improvement culture. Responsibilities include: operational safety programs including EHS compliance with local, state and Dutch regulations, supply chain coordination to meet material demands, capital equipment needs and associated projects in support of long term site and corporate strategies, coordination of plant manufacturing activities and warehoused distribution functions to balance demand across the production facility targeting 100% on time delivery at the lowest possible cost while maintaining quality standards, accurate and timely invoicing and associated receipt of payment, and working capital monitoring and control. The General Manager of Asbury Graphite and Carbons NL B.V. will work closely with organization peers in safety, quality, supply chain, human resources, technical services (R&D), marketing, operations, finance and sales throughout the corporation acting as a key facilitator and coordinator for team based improvement activities related to the Asbury Graphite and Carbons NL B.V. overall business operation and initiatives as detailed in an annual “Road Map”. The Asbury Graphite and Carbons NL B.V. General Manager is a member of the Corporate Leadership Committee and Strategic Planning Committee and may serve as an officer of Asbury Carbons subsidiary or holding companies abroad.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide and maintain a work environment that is safe, clean and productive;
- Supervision of the entire operational system of the Asbury Graphite and Carbons NL B.V. operation;
- Ensure “Human Resources” related issues are referred to the corporate HR Manager in support of the local HR Manager;
- Ensure production and delivery schedules are established and on time delivery;
- Ensure raw material inventories are adequate and logistics coordination is managed;
- Work with employees at all levels to continuously improve all processes;
- Ensure maintenance activities are scheduled and managed;
- Create and maintain two way communications with corporate management that is filtered down to the operation as needed and at the same time upward to communicate needs, performance metrics and feedback as warranted;
- Review activity profit and loss statements at least quarterly and respond to concerns accordingly;
- Create and assure a work environment that recruits, retains and supports qualified direct reports. Creates and assures a process for selecting, developing, motivating and evaluating direct reports and offers training as necessary to achieve requirements as assigned
- Work closely with sales and marketing and Quality;
- Deliver or collaborate in monthly operations reports and dashboard reports as assigned;
- In collaboration with Asbury peers including the Leadership Committee and Strategic Planning Committee, develop a strategic plan for the Maastricht facility including capital investment plans and execute according to approvals based on ROI projections. Planning may include expansion beyond the existing facilities and business portfolio;
- Participate as the senior leader of the organization based in Europe in critical interactions with customers, suppliers and service providers;
- Ensure that all employees are trained in and adhere to required procedures and policies including but not limited to: The Code of Conduct and Business Ethics, Authorization Rules, Golden Rules of Safety and the Trade Compliance manual;
- Act as the key organizational bridge to bring European and US cultures together collaboratively acting as the chief facilitator and endorser of corporate directives, into the facility promoting the need for “buy in” to the members of the Maastricht team.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 10 years experience in Manufacturing, Production and Distribution industry;
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills in Dutch and English.
- Preferably a College/Graduate level education;
- Good working knowledge of business finance and solid understanding of Profit and Loss Statements, Asset and Liability Statements;
- Ability to operate across multi-cultural boundaries;
- Multicultural awareness (20 nationalities working together in the Netherlands);
- Consultative and collaborative manufacturing abilities;
- Strong initiation and follow up skills, with skill in examining, re-engineering and formulating new strategies and procedures;
- This is a senior leadership position and requires a willingness to work flexible schedule with frequent travel;
- Good Project Management skills.
